Not one or the other, both, choose both. Where Possibility Lives…

“It is critical that we talk about ‘how we open part of economy safely’ rather ‘than health vs economy’”.  CBI spokesperson April 2020

That was a very interesting signpost / message from the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) – both from an informative point, its inherent message and in the manner the sentence is constructed.

It perfectly illustrated that Coaching distinction “Don’t focus on at ‘either  / or’ –  rather focus on ‘and & both’.

Possibility thinking and creativity is not just about generating dazzling, left of field or outrageous possibility. More often, the wisdom and breakthroughs sit in ‘how can we progress with both (choices, positions, ideas)?

You’ve seen that distinction very clearly illustrated a few weeks ago in the ‘do we open or close construction sites’ heard in a some boardrooms versus ‘how do we keep going AND make sure everyone is safe’ conversations in others.

This aspect of possibility thinking is all about the AND…. and it  being, an attitude, a behaviour.

Frequently heard or not heard as the case may be.

How do I preserve my ferocious independence AND be in a relationship?

How can I have a successful career AND be in great shape?

How do we have a large business AND staff feel like its a small (family) business?

How do I control the Team AND give them freedom?

How do we get Apollo 13 back to Earth AND have all the crew survive?

How do we have it all? Its a great question, at the right time.
