Retirement as we know it – is so yesterday…
The retirement where the full time worker gives heart and soul to the business – then one fine day its game over.
Car keys handed in, desk cleared and the next thirty years slowly dying inside trudging around golf courses and B&Q.
That’s yesterday’s model still embedded in our psyche and system.
The new retirement:
-
The moment your schedule is owned and fully controlled by you.
-
Work is on your terms, your conditions, your boundaries, your standards, ethics and happiness centric.
-
You are doing work that calls to your strengths, hard-wired abilities and the activities that give you energy – the other crap has been jettisoned.
For the avoidance of doubt, we are already living in an age where that is possible inside a corporation – it’s not just for the self-employed.
It took 15 minutes to write this piece. Expectation management – it could take 18 months to acquire the new retirement.
First you have to believe it’s possible, because it is and every day in hesitation is a day wasted.
“In the workplace I have definitely improved – I am more organised, I delegate more, I listen more, and I know when to let others have their say. I feel in control. It’s fair to say that at my age it’s hard to change wholesale, but working with you has enabled me to take a step back on everything and do what I always had in me – but never implemented I guess”.
