Retirement as we know it – is so yesterday…

Retirement as we know it – is so yesterday…

The retirement where the full time worker gives heart and soul to the business – then one fine day its game over.

Car keys handed in, desk cleared and the next thirty years slowly dying inside trudging around golf courses and B&Q.
That’s yesterday’s model still embedded in our psyche and system.

The new retirement:

  1. The moment your schedule is owned and fully controlled by you.
  2. Work is on your terms, your conditions, your boundaries, your standards, ethics and happiness centric.
  3. You are doing work that calls to your strengths, hard-wired abilities and the activities that give you energy – the other crap has been jettisoned.

For the avoidance of doubt, we are already living in an age where that is possible inside a corporation – it’s not just for the self-employed.

It took 15 minutes to write this piece. Expectation management – it could take 18 months to acquire the new retirement.

First you have to believe it’s possible, because it is and every day in hesitation is a day wasted.

“In the workplace I have definitely improved – I am more organised, I delegate more, I listen more, and I know when to let others have their say. I feel  in control. It’s fair to say that at my age it’s hard to change wholesale, but working with you has enabled me to take a step back on everything and do what I always had in me – but never implemented I guess”.
